Book 54: Don’t Go To Sleep
Matt is a geek (no I’m not talking about myself) and lives in the smallest room in his house. It’s obvious that everyone hates him (including his mom).
What frustrates him the most is that no one uses the Guest Room yet he can’t sleep in there. Despite his best attempts to convince his mom to let him move in she will not backdown. Finally he decides to sneak into the guest room.
Every single time he goes to sleep he wakes up into a new reality. Each one worse than the previous one. What he discovers is that sleeping the guest room unlocks a new reality which he can’t escape unless he goes to sleep in his original room.
Finally he manages to return to his original life and could not be more excited. Until he finds out that his mom has moved him into the Guest Room like he requested.
THE BAD: The twist is kinda mediocre and this was another case of R.L. Stine making the most unlikable siblings and parent ever. They’re insanely mean to their brother/son
THE GOOD: The multiple realities are all interesting and fun and it’s one of the few Goosebumps books that constantly move forward and doesn’t waste time on fake outs.
THE TV SHOW EPISODE: This is without a doubt one of the most bizarre episodes ever. It’s a super unfaithful adaptation as well. This isn’t a bad thing though. It’s so crazy that it’s kinda funny.
