BOOK 5: THE CURSE OF THE MUMMY
I used to dislike this book a kid. I didn’t find it every scary or interesting then and nothing has changed since. R.L. Stine drags out the story without much of anything really happening. The story follows Gabe.
His parents are vacationing in Egypt where his Uncle Ben is working in the Pyramids. However his mom and dad have to run off for business (never fully understood how their work and Egypt were related) so he’s left to stay with his Uncle Ben and his spoiled cousin Sari.
About 80% of the book is just Uncle Ben and Sari pulling pranks on Gabe to make him think the Mummies are alive. Even more disappointing is that the Mummy is never alive, it’s all Uncle Ben’s assistant Abhed trying to protect a mummy he believes is his great-great-great-great-great grandfather.
THE GOOD: Abhed has been mummifying living people. If you know how the mummification process worked you understand how horrifying this is. However the book doesn’t really dig too deeply into it (Understandably)
THE BAD: At one point Gabe complains that Sari always beats him in “Super Mario Land” on SNES. Do some research R.L. Stine!
